Hi, I’m David.

When I first started in sales I was an 18 year old college freshman at the University of Toledo, and I was completely broke. In debt, and feeling lost.

A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go to Florida on spring break. 

Having no money made this kind of difficult but he assured me we could go in his car and we could stay at his friend’s house for free. 

His car, by the way, was an old beat up Plymouth with holes in the floor. I could actually see the road beneath me as we were riding down the highway!! 

When I think about that now I cringe. But we were young, going to Florida on spring break, and what’s a few holes in the floor of the car?  No big deal. 

While we were there a guy by the name of Steve let me drive his Corvette Stingray sports car. At that time…decades ago…that was THE car for a young man to have. IMMEDIATELY, I knew I HAD to have that car! 

This was a major turning point for me. This is when I first feltburning desire.’ 

I told my new friends in Florida I was going to get that car and they all laughed at me and said, “No way they are too expensive. Steve got his through some type of inheritance.”

I said, You mark my words, I am going to get that car.”  They continued to laugh.

When I got back to Toledo, OH after my trip I was on FIRE!! I had to get that car. I looked for a job EVERYWHERE. 

No one would hire me with no experience. 

FINALLY, I talked Bob into hiring me. Bob was the first sales boss I’d ever had. The job was selling air filtration units door to door.

I was on a mission with a ‘burning desire’ and nothing…I mean nothing..was going to stop me from my goal of getting that car. 

I happened to luck out with getting into sales. And I happened to luck out with Bob being THE best mentor I ever had in my life. 

I applied EVERYTHING Bob told me and within 3 months I had the cash to get a brand new corvette!! Not payments, but cash. 

Within 3 months I went from being completely broke to driving around in brand new convertible sports car making a fortune every month!

Why?

I had an incredibly great mentor, and I had a burning desire. 

On a side note, the people who laughed at me and said I would not be able to make the money to get that car…well, many of them ended up working for me. I made an override on everything they sold. Sweet!
